待ちに待った世界選手権。四大陸選手権の結果を見てみるとこれは優勝あり得るぞと期待していました。ですが、靴トラブルに精神的な緊張。それでもジェイソンと力を合わせ見事にアメリカ男子オリンピック・世界選手権「３枠」を持って帰ってくれました。大人びて見えますがまだ１７歳。ほんとうに世界選手権お疲れさまでした。

そして国別対抗戦。毎回この大会はお祭りな感じなので、普段のクールなネイサンとはまた違う一面を見られるだろうと思いわくわくしました。日本に来てくれるのだから楽しんでくれれば、試合の内容なんてどうでもいいと思ってました。ですが、ショートプログラム。世界選手権の時の彼とは全くの別人です。動き出しのポージングから最初のジャンプまでのムーブメントで「魅せる」という気持ちが伝わってきました。世界選手権の時には雑になりがちだった振付も見違えるように美しかったです。そして苦手なトリプルアクセルも着氷しステップへ。ネイサンが音楽に合わせるのではなくて音楽がネイサンについていっているようでした。複雑で、かつ軽やかなフットワーク。時折笑顔も見せほんとうに楽しそうに踊っている姿は「フィギュアスケートの素晴らしさ」を実演しているようでした。そして最後にガッツポーズ。画面越しに見た自分でさえ拍手をせずにはいられませんでした。キスクラではちょっとはじけてサングラスを。相変わらずのラファのネイサンを思いやる場面も見られてよかったです。
話は変わりますが、他の選手の時のキスクラではちょっとシャイな感じも見られて、大人びてはきているけど笑顔や性格は変わらない部分もあるんだなと親的な目線でみてしまいました。 FSの話は長くなるのでここらへんで。次はいよいよオリンピックシーズン。オリンピックが終わったら引退するかもという話も出ていますが未来のことは分かりません。ただ、これからも変わらずに彼を応援していくだけです。どうか、怪我だけはしませんように。そして、ネイサンにとって人生の１ページに残る素晴らしいシーズンになりますように。

Summary in English:
Given the result of 4CC, I found myself expecting to see Nathan win the championship. As you know, that did not happen while he had the boots and pressures to deal with. However, he fought hard with Jason to bring home 3 spots for the next Olympic and the Worlds of the US men’s skaters. He looks matured, but he was just 17. I am very proud of him.
I looked forward to seeing different aspect of Nathan, who is usually cool looking, at WTT that has a festive mood. I just hoped he would enjoy WTT. However he was totally different from the Worlds. From the starting posing till the first jump, he got his determination for his artistry come across. It was not that Nathan skated to the music but the music followed him. I could not help but applaud in front of the TV screen.
He looked shy at kiss & cry, and I was observing him from a sort of parental perspective of view. I found that he had not changed much in his way of smiling and character though he is becoming grown-up.
The next season is the Olympic season. There is a talk that he may withdraw from competitions after the Olympic, but who knows his future? All I can do is to keep rooting for him as I have been doing. I wish nothing but his staying healthy. May his next season be the best one that would last as a memorable season in his life.
