I will not rest until every inch of our fair state is covered in garbage. That’s why I pay taxes. It keeps garbage men working. So they can buy tacos. For their families.
Shake it up a bit! Get out of your box! Even if that box happens to be where you’re living.
It’s not easy to break out of your comfort zone, people will tear you down. Tell you that you shouldn’t have bother in the first place.
There’s not much of a difference between a stadium full of cheering fans and an angry crowd screaming abuse at you. They’re both just making a lot of noise. How you take it is up to you. Convince yourself they’re cheering for you. You do that, and some day they will.
I’m incredibly happy that they’re going to be hosting a World Championships. It must be very disappointing for the Japanese Federation since they had put so much effort into hosting the World Championships, but I’m glad that we are going to be able to compete.
Was it hard to keep perspective – understanding the tragedy in Japan, but still wanting to compete?
When you are a competitor, your opinion is going to be a little biased because you put in so much effort into your training, but at the same time, we had to look at the devastation that the entire Japanese country was feeling. The images were just surreal. It was certainly tough to understand the gravity and the magnitude of the situation at times because we are stuck in our little training bubble.
What was it like to train while the status of Worlds was uncertain?
I was forcing myself to come down from peaking in my training. It was kind of bizarre because I had never gone through that before. Typically when you have a low in your training it either comes from after a competition, when it’s very natural to come down, or an injury or something of that sort. It was weird to force that. It was a great experience for me to test my strength mentally and physically to continue to train during through that circumstance. I’m glad that we’ve come out on the other side and that we’ll be having a world championships.
